The biggest prediction from league insiders? That Jones, who is expected to want close to $20 million per season, has priced himself out of K.C. and will be traded to an NFC contender for a late-first-round pick.
Arrowheadlines: Three round mock draft has the Chiefs going LB, DL and RB
Jones will cost more, but he’s also way more important to the defense. Breeland is overdue for his payday, and he’ll be looking to milk every penny. People forget he’s been with 5 teams in the last 3 years. Jones has more of a loyalty factor that will play in, both from the team to him and him to the team.
Morning Report: Jon Jones defends his controversial win over Dominick Reyes as UFC 247: ‘Don’t be mad at the judges, be mad at Dom’s conditioning guy’
Jon Jones used energy relatively conservatively. It was quite a feat at light heavyweight to use the amount of movement that Dominic used in the early rounds and still be able to keep enough movement to avoid being clobbered in the later rounds by a relatively fresh Jon Jones.
UFC’s Jon Jones: ‘I think it’s inevitable’ that I’ll work with WWE one day
Ronda was, Brock was, Jones is not. Given Jones’s background, I would not sign the guy. He is a time bomb. the WWE is a publicly traded company. They are really hard core about "family friendly" and all that. I don’t see them wanting Jones because of his past and the probability that something bad happens with him again.
Cain may not have a lot of charisma, but WWE only signed him after he showed up in AAA and showed that his big ass could get up on the top ropes and do a moonsault. That is nuts. They hired him because 1) appealing to the hispanic market, 2) he showed an interest in wrestling. Actually learning rather than thinking he could just show up in WWE. 3) He is supposedly really easy to work with.
Jon Jones: Dominick Reyes lost, he can try 1000 times, ‘I’ll edge him every single time’
Gustafsson certainly was no longer the same fighter and was hurt badly by Cormier and Rumble prior to fighting Jones again.
DC fought the same fight against Jones in the rematch and that head kick was there. Jones capitalized this time. That fight was no different. Difference with Reyes is Jones didn’t have nearly as much success with the knee kicks, teeps and body work and head shots because of the movement and range of Reyes.
I give Jones credit for finishing the rematches but this is a bit different. Reyes only has 13 fights and his ceiling is certainly higher than Gus or DC was going into rematches.
Reyes has taken very little damage in his career, and he is likely to get better yet. Reyes was also the one dealing out the most damage and was remarkably resilient against Jones in the championship rounds in his first 5 round fight in the UFC. Just a little bit more urgency from Reyes and he could have taken one of those rounds. Reyes was tiring but he was still doing very well in not allowing Jones to implement his wrestling and he was still dangerous.
Like the first fight with Gustafsson, this is a rematch that Jones won’t want immediately.
