Where the Chiefs’ roster stands as the offseason begins
I hate hearing "we need to trade [insert name here]" every year after they’ve had a good year. Jones is a major part of the core of this defense. I would like to see most of the D-Line stay intact, minus Suggs who needs to retire. With that said, Jones is the only one I would break the bank on to keep. I like Ogbah and Pennel. Xavier Williams is ok but if he isn’t brought back, it’s not really a big loss.
Players I’d keep:
- DT Chris Jones
- DE Ogbah (at the right price)
- DT Pennel
- LB Ragland (at the right price)
- CB Breeland
- FB Sherman (at the right price, but not likely)
- TE Bell (at least for camp and preseason)
- QB Moore (I think he’s a better option than Henne)
- WR Robinson (only at the right price)
Cut or Trade Watkins unless he takes a massive pay cut (enough to free up the 14 mil that we gain from trading/cutting him)
Cut Damian Wilson, he did OK but he’s not worth the near 4 mil cap number
Opt out of the contract for Erving
The only ones I’m not too sure on is Damian Williams and Sorensen. Yes Williams was great in the playoffs but calling him inconsistent during the season is being generous. He’s actually kind of reminding me of James White right now. A guy you don’t hear much of throughout the season but hear constantly in the playoffs, and White isn’t even considered a starter. As far as Sorensen goes, the guy stepped up in the latter part of the year but I’m not sure he’s worth the 4 mil cap number
Opinion: Enough with the Jon Jones to heavyweight talk
There should be no doubt about it, nobody has ever defended the belt as much or held it as long as jones has… he ended the carrousel of champions that rotated the belt around for years until he took it from shogun, who was in his first title defense after taking it from machida who was in his second(only because of terrible judging he got the first) who took it from Evans who was in his first defense, who took it from Griffin in his first defense, who took it from rampage during his third defense. Before all of that chuck held it for a bit and was up there as the GOAT, but bones has blown him out the water. The reason people want to see jones at HW, is because it will cement his legacy as the GOAT Pound 4 Pound, and I for one would like to see such a generational talent pull it off during my time. That is all
Figuring out what position is the biggest need for the Dallas Cowboys in the 2020 NFL Draft
There are so many holes that they’ve put themselves in a terrible position. They have to sign either Jones or Brown just for bodies. There’s no way to affordably replace an entire backfield in one offseason. It’s unlikely to draft two starting corners in one draft. Double dip in the first and second on corners? Doubtful and not preferable. Look at 2021. No corners and one overpaid DE with a bunch of JAGS behind him. I had been assuming Jones was a goner for sure. But I think it may be easier to get a near replacement for Cooper than a nice cover corner in the 2nd round. I think I’d rather pay Jones’ 15M rather than Cooper’s 18M. If they think they can replace Jones’ health and production in the first round then ok, let him go. Risky. It’s more likely a 2nd round receiver can step in and play more snaps than a 2nd round DB. I can’t believe I’m having to consider drafting a receiver with all the holes on defense but I’m feeling like we can compete if we re-sign Collins and Woods or a similarly priced FA. Up the interior beef with a FA. Re-sign Jones, draft a DE if one’s there in the first and find a serviceable FA safety. One thing is for sure. They need to hit a home run with a blue chip first round defensive player wherever that guy plays.
The talent distribution of free agency and the draft, and what it should mean for the Cowboys defense
When the new CBA goes through, it is widely accepted that the Gregory’s suspension will also be lifted with the new policies involving marijuana use and suspensions stemming from it. Jones and Gregory were part of the same draft class so they are about the same age. Byron Jones has been really good when on the field, so has Randy Gregory. Randy Gregory has been just as impactful if not more than Byron Jones and he hasn’t even seen the field as much as Jones or developed the experience he has.
Personally I would take Gregory if I had to choose between them because a defensive lineman can affect every play since he plays on the line of the scrimmage and will find himself less than 3 yards away from the ball on every play. Meanwhile Jones is never guaranteed to be within maybe 7, maybe even 10 yards of the ball on any given play.
"Last weekend, Jon Jones got away with one by stealing a win from Dominick Reyes with the help of three judges." I stopped reading after that. What journalism school did this clown graduate from?
Notes: Should fans expect the Lions to be active in free agency?
Sign Golladay to a long term contract, draft a rookie early who could play slot and run consistent routes, then sign Jones to a short term extension. I’d be surprised if he demands too high a price on a 2 year contract.
