The Los Angeles Rams dropped their third consecutive game, this time to the New York Giants oversees in the UK at the Twickenham Stadium in London, England.

The loss, fueled by four interceptions thrown by Rams starting quarterback Case Keenum – two tipped by Rams receiver Tavon Austin, two thrown moronically – puts the team at 3-4 through seven weeks into the season. In retrospect, the Rams were 3-3 through the first seven weeks of the 2015 season (bye week at week 6). So, it is safe to say the Rams are right on track.

Same old sorry ass Rams. Hate to tell y’all we told you so, but fuck it we told y’all so.

Lets take a look back at how the Giants players to watched performed:

WR Odell Beckham Jr.

Odell Beckham was held to 49 yards on five receptions by the Rams secondary. However, that was not due to stellar play on the Rams behave (though the Rams secondary fared relatively well). It was a mere result of quarterback play.

Even with Beckham having little impact, the Giants still found a way to pull off the victory.

SS Landon Collins

Landon Collins had one of his best games against the Rams.

Not only did the former LSU Tiger pick off Keenum twice for his first two INTs of the season, the first of those two interceptions resulted with Collins breaking tackles and stretching outwards into the endzone for a touchdown.

Landon was near the ball all day. He not only played alert in coverage but also defended the run well. He was constantly near the line of scrimmage.

All in all, Collins tacked on eight tackles and two passes defended to go along with his two INTs and the defensive touchdown.

DT Damon Harrison

The Giants’ big man had himself a busy day against the Rams. Harrison totaled six tackles, one for a loss, a sack, and another QB hit.

Damon definitely did his job as a run stuffing nose tackle, limiting L.A.’s running back Todd Gurley to 57 yards on 15 carries.

Cannot ask the big fella for much else.

CB Janoris Jenkins

Rams receiver Brian Quick burned Janoris Jenkins for a quick 48-yard reception early on in the match up, but that was pretty much it. For the rest of the game, it continued to be “Clampseason2.0“ for the Jackrabbit. The fifth-year corner totaled four tackles along with three passes defended.

Jenkins’ colleague, veteran Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie had himself quite a day as well. The ninth-year corner picked off Case Keenum twice, both coming in the endzone.

QB Eli Manning

Can’t spell ELITE without Eli. Haha.

And that is the sad part. Eli did not defeat the Rams. He did not do jack shit. He simply did not fuck it up.

Take note Case. Since you are remaining as L.A.’s starting QB.

Here’s what Rams HC Jeff Fisher had to say today after returning from London and the big Week 7 loss.

Los Angeles Rams Head Coach Jeff Fisher

(Opening Remarks)

“I’m not going to answer any questions with regard to how much sleep I’ve had. But, let’s get to the game. Disappointing, we had a chance to win. You go up by ten, and you have to make some plays and extend the lead – we didn’t. We gave up the obvious interception return for a touchdown. We battled and we just ran out of time, ran out of plays. Just one of those games, you know, if you look back the last two weeks since we left, at Detroit, offense puts up a lot of points, and defense can’t get the job done. Then, I really think yesterday, the defense played well, and played winning football, from start to finish. Offensively, we just couldn’t get the ball in the end zone. You look at a 17-10 game, and you turn the ball over four times on offense, something’s going well for you, and that was the defensive effort and the special team effort, but we just couldn’t overcome the turnovers.

“Here’s where we are. I have not changed my mindset whatsoever with respect to (QB) Case (Keenum) and (QB) Jared (Goff). As I mentioned last night, Jared’s going to get some reps, which is a byproduct of the bye week. We’re moving forward. We have to get some guys back, which we will. We have a chance to be extremely healthy, if you compare the roster after this bye week to the start of the regular season, so that’s encouraging. We’re going to work hard over the next couple of days, as staff – looking at what’s been good and what’s not, where we need to improve. I think realistically, when the guys come back after the bye week, we’ll have a couple of good days of work and then we’ll get ready for the Panthers.”

(On if there is anything QB Jared Goff can do in the next couple of weeks to show that he’s ready to start)

“Like I said, he’s going to get reps. I don’t feel like (QB) Case (Keenum) needs the reps Wednesday and early next week. So, Jared will get those reps, which is good.”

(On why this isn’t an ideal time to make a change at the quarterback position)

“It’s just what I said yesterday, and what Case has done, we won three-straight games with him. Yes, I understand we’ve lost three-straight, but the quarterback position, in my opinion, is not the reason why we lost the football games, nor was it yesterday. At first glance, if you look – oh, he threw four interceptions. You look at the actual plays, and as you guys know, interceptions – you can place blame wherever you want. (QB) Jared (Goff) is going to be our starter (in the future), but we’re going to continue with Case. Looking forward to a good couple weeks of preparation for Carolina.”

I have not changed my mindset whatsoever with respect to (QB) Case (Keenum) and (QB) Jared (Goff).

(On the play of the wide receivers and if they’re playing up to their capabilities)

“We’re getting more production out them, which is good. Brian (Quick) is making plays, Kenny (Britt) is making plays, but when you playing close games, you got to do everything exactly right, and we didn’t do that at the wide receiver position; nor did we do that at the offensive line position, or the running back position, for that matter. You have to deflect, or be realistic from that standpoint, when you’re looking at the quarterback position. Because if an offensive lineman gets beat on the snap, and the quarterback gets hit and he’s hurried on the throw, if the throw is incomplete, it’s not the quarterback’s fault, it’s the offensive lineman’s fault. That’s just an example. We just have to get better as a team.”

(On WR Kenny Britt running the wrong route that he referenced in his postgame press conference yesterday)

“It was a deep ball that he didn’t expect – he didn’t expect he was going to be (the) primary (receiver). It was not an interception, it was a potential touchdown. Those are the little things, when you lose a game like we did, little things become big things. And that’s what we do as coaches, we address the little things. You have to do the right things all the time.”

(On if he sees potential for personnel changes at receiver or on the offensive line during the bye week)

“No, we’re going to work some of the younger guys in there. We’ve got a healthy ‘Coop’ (WR Pharoh Cooper) as well as ‘Nels’ (WR Nelson Spruce), so they’re going to get a lot of reps, so we’ll see. (WR) Michael’s (Thomas) doing a good job out there on special teams and (WR) Bradley’s (Marquez) an outstanding special teams player. We just have to get more production out of the whole group.”

(On what the reasons are for sight-checks breaking down at the line of scrimmage)

“Understand the whole play – you have the play clock running down, you’ve got defenses that are stemming and moving and then you have a quarterback that turns out and makes a signal, and at the receiver position, you also have to recognize what’s going on, so you might miss it. It’s just one of those things that happened. Unfortunately, it happened at the wrong time. I was proud of the drive to that point, I thought the guys handled themselves really well. We got down there, we got in the plus-territory, got in position to tie the game up. Our expectation was to tie the game up, because time was running down, then we’re going to go into overtime and find a way to win it in overtime.”

(On how he treats the bye week in terms of getting from a losing streak)

“The losses are behind us, we’ll look forward to the Carolina challenge. Everybody has different needs and I think that’s the most important thing, is you address the needs. We have guys that need to rest, we have guys that need some work. At the same time, we do walk-thrus as we move through it, they need to understand some of the areas we need to improve upon. Again, offensively, given the rankings, which are subjective, our third-down stuff has really improved and I’m pleased with that and I’m pleased with where we are defensively – especially as we look at the possibility of getting some guys back. This week is about resting, it’s about recovering – which we say all the time – it’s also about getting away and coming back recharged, that’s probably the most important thing.”

(On if the fast start in the game was a correlation to being in London for the entire week)

“It’s a good football team we played, a good defense, a Super Bowl-winning quarterback. It’s just what things that happened in the game. There were opportunities there, there were penalties that I disagree with that were drive-changing, drive-interrupting. But if I had to do it all over again, I’d do the same thing because they were prepared, they were fresh and they were ready to play.”

TE Lance Kendricks hit a season low on Sunday dropping below 85%. The extra snaps didn’t go to TE Tyler Higbee or DEATHSERGEANT Cory Harkey.

Instead, most of them went to the WRs. Kenny Britt logged his second-highest playing time share. Brian Quick hit a season high. Bradley Marquez notched his second-highest.
Worth pointing out that rookie WR Pharoh Cooper was yet again a healthy scratch. The Rams’ 2016 NFL Draft class isn’t getting a ton of production through (nearly) the first half of the season.

In any case, DT Aaron Donald hit a season high. In three of the Rams’ first four games, Donald came in under 80% of defensive snaps. He’s topped that mark in each of the last three.

From 3-1 to 3-4...the Rams have a bye week to mull over what went wrong.

From a three-game winning streak to a three-game losing streak, the 2016 Los Angeles Rams’ season has turned on its head in the last three weeks.

Now headed into a bye week after a humiliating loss on an international stage, the Rams are forced to take stock of what’s going wrong and try to get it fixed before another season turns the second half of the schedule into preparation operations.

Here’s the landscape moving forward.

Injuries

The Rams got through yesterday largely unscathed by all indications.

Going into the game with the official injury report, CB Trumaine Johnson and DT Michael Brockers were both ruled out while WR Nelson Spruce and G Jamon Brown were “Doubtful.” With the bye week, we won’t get an official injury report until November 2. There’s reason to think it will look very good for the Rams though if the bye week helps those four heal up with the rest.

Performance Issues

And here’s the epicenter.

Now seven games into Jeff Fisher’s fifth season as head coach and the architect of the entire Rams’ performance arc, and things look...imperfect.

The Rams’ 2015 third-round QB and the 2016 NFL Draft #1 overall pick that they mortgaged most of their top draft capital in 2016 and 2017 to be able to select remain sidelined in favor of Case Keenum, the QB they brought in as the backup last year. Keenum is now averaging less than 250 yards per game having thrown eight touchdowns and 10 interceptions after yesterday’s quartet. Through seven games last season, former Rams QB Nick Foles was averaging less than 190 yards while throwing seven TDs to just five INTs leading the Rams to their only winning record through seven games under Fisher.

Todd Gurley, he who almost single-handedly carried the team’s offensive hopes into 2016 thanks largely to the team’s impressive marketing efforts, has been rendered inept. Inept due to the effect of the coaches’ play selection and interdependence. Inept due to the offensive line. And inept due to his individual degeneration. That was only reinforced by yesterday’s game plan which saw Keenum throw the ball 53 times to Gurley’s 15 rushes.

Meanwhile, the Rams’ defense put together one of its finer showings tamping down the Giants’ passing game with Odell Beckham, Jr., and Co. while making short work of New York’s running game.

Between Keenum’s four interceptions and the Rams’ eight penalties (culture change!), the offense found a way to squander the defense’s poor showing, a complete 180 from the week prior.

The bye week comes at an opportune time. Rams fans need to brace for the upcoming five-game run that will determine the 2016 season. The pressure is already on to crown Jared Goff at some point in this two-week period. The injury report should thin out heading into Week 9. And the Rams will finally get back to the Coliseum for just their third game of the regular season there.

“I'll make changes at WR before I make a change at QB.”

Following the Los Angeles Rams’ Week 7 loss in London to the New York Giants to drop them to 3-4, Head Coach Jeff Fisher reiterated his support for starting QB Case Keenum to retain the position slot ahead of franchise rookie backup QB Jared Goff:

That’s NFL Media Reporter Gregg Rosenthal with the post-game quote from Fish.

It’s not surprising, really. Fisher had all the opportunity to move on from Keenum this offseason. He, and General Manager Les Snead, didn’t. Instead they voiced their support of him holding the starting job and tendered him at a first-round level to ensure that he would remain with the team as a restricted free agent.

There’s really no reason to make a change now. Bear in mind, Keenum outplayed Goff in the preseason. That Keenum played poorly today and this season in general should serve as a fair indicator that Goff wouldn’t fare well at all in this system this season with the same personnel around him.

No, instead, we’re just stuck here. We’re stuck with the guy the Rams traded for to begin last season as their backup QB starting. We’re stuck with their third-round pick from the 2015 NFL Draft stuck in HUMAN SOMEWHERE ON EARTH limbo. And we’re stuck with the #1 overall pick from the 2016 NFL Draft remaining unfit for the job, a job that perhaps nobody is truly fit for.

Another disappointing loss. Get those excuses ready.

The Los Angeles Rams remain the same every where they go. The L.A. squad gave up a 17 to 10 defeat to the New York Giants at the Twickenham Stadium in London, England.

There should be some serious conversations of playing Jared Goff after the Bye Week. Case Keenum – for the third, or forth (shit, everything is blending together) consecutive game – continues to have boneheaded turnovers (although the pick six was not entirely on him). Four muhfuckin’ interceptions. And the final one on a possible game winning drive. Fuck outta here Case.

The Rams offense is continuously operating without an identity. They want to pound the ball with the running game, yet Todd Gurley receives all of 15 carries for 57 yards – the latest in horrid outings for the former offensive rookie of the year. He has shown a knack for catching the ball out of the backfield or lined up out wide as a receiver yet the coaching staff fails to call his number consistently.

Speaking of consistency on offense, the Rams need to figure out what to do with their receivers. No receiver has shown the ability to consistently get in rhythm with the quarterback. Just look at Kenny Britt as an example. Britt balled out last week to the tune of seven catches for 136 yards and two touchdowns. Today? Only three catches for 43 yards. Brian Quick was this week’s “stand out“ receiver with four catches for 92 yards.

On defense, the team has to shut down the big hits. Going for the headbustin’ hit has led to too many misses tackles.

We get the next week off. Lets see if Jeff Fisher & Co. make any changes.

P.S.: he won’t.

Here are the inactives for today’s Rams-Giants game.

Here are the seven inactives for the Los Angeles Rams taking on the New York Giants today:

Cooper, Mannion and Murphy have been frequent inactive selections even when healthy.

This means TE Temarrick Hemingway, who has frequently been out, will be active.

At this point, it’s worth wondering where Pharoh Cooper (and to a degree, Nelson Spruce) factors in to this roster. I’m not sure either will be involved in this season’s plans unless things fall apart...much like a certain rookie quarterback.
