Saturday Football Picks: AFC South potentially on the line in night game

The Colts and Texans have been surprise potential playoff teams this year, can one of them finish the job?

It’s a two-game Saturday for the NFL as the season comes to a close, and it’s a big day for the AFC. The Pittsburgh Steelers and Baltimore Ravens do battle first in the afternoon, and then at night, the Indianapolis Colts and Houston Texans meet in a game which could decide how the AFC South title plays out.

According to DraftKings Sportsbook, the Steelers are currently favored over the Ravens and the Texans are slightly favored over the Colts. We have been using Tallysight to get our picks in each week, so sign up at Tallysight for submitting your own bets.

Mason Rudolph and the Steelers helped the Los Angeles Rams clinch a playoff berth last week when they defeated the Seattle Seahawks to keep their playoff hopes alive. While they will need some help to grab a wild card spot, first and foremost, they need to pick up a win against the Ravens.

Normally that would be a tall task, but with the Ravens already locking up the number one seed in the AFC, Pittsburgh will most-likely be playing against backup QB Tyler Huntley rather than the potential NFL MVP Lamar Jackson. On top of this, Rudolph has the Steelers offense rejuvenated, riding a two-game win streak, while keeping normal starting QB Kenny Pickett on the bench.

Given the Steelers desperation for a win to keep their playoff hopes alive, and the fact the Ravens are probably sitting their starters, I am taking Pittsburgh to cover the spread and get the win. I am also taking the over in this one, since the Steelers offense has been much improved as of late and Ravens backup QB Huntley has proven the ability to run the offense efficiently in the past.

When it comes to the night game, it’s all about the AFC South title. While the Jaguars currently hold first place in the division, starting QB Trevor Lawrence may not be able to play with a shoulder injury. On top of that, they play a scrappy Titans team that would love to keep their division rivals out of the playoffs. If the Jaguars lose, the winner of Colts vs Texans would take the division and take the post-season spot.

While I think CJ Stroud is a special talent, I am a big believer in Gardner Minshew this season. No one expected that the Texans and Colts would be battling for a chance at the AFC South title in preseason, but both teams look to be trending upwards for the future. That said, I think the Colts win the game and cover the spread in a shoot out, which is why I am taking the over as well.
