Rams-Lions is the most likely NFL wild card matchup

The Jared Goff vs. Sean McVay playoff game could really happen in two weeks

With the NFL playoff picture hardly set as we head into the final week of the regular season, the most-likely wild card matchup in the entire league is the Los Angeles Rams going to Detroit to take on the Lions in the first round. There is a 61.1% chance that the Rams will play the Lions, the highest odds of any wild card game happening, which means that Sean McVay against Jared Goff is almost certainly what we will get in a little less than two weeks.

And fans of both teams are here for it.

There is still a 35% chance that the Rams will face the Dallas Cowboys in round 1. The Cowboys have come from behind to catch the Eagles and are only one win or one Philly loss from clinching the NFC East and the two-seed.

The Cowboys beat the Rams 43-20 at midseason.

In the divisional round, there is a 28.3% chance that the Rams will face the 49ers in round two, the second-highest odds of any divisional game happening. The most-likely is that the Lions beat the Rams and face the Cowboys, a rematch of Saturday’s blunder for Brad Allen.

The Rams faced the Lions in 2021, the year that they traded Goff and two first round picks for Matthew Stafford, and won that game. Detroit GM Brad Holmes, who was hired away from L.A. and has quickly transformed the Lions into an NFC North powerhouse, would be facing his former mentor in that case. There’s other connections as well, including Josh Reynolds.
