The Chargers have a new quarterback this week, can he will the team to a much needed win?

The Los Angeles Chargers are heading to Allegiant Stadium to take on the Las Vegas Raiders in an AFC matchup of two teams looking on the outside of the playoff bubble. The Charges are coming off a loss to the Denver Broncos, where they saw their superstar QB Justin Herbert get injured. He was placed on IR earlier this week, leaving the team to be lead by backup Eason Stick from here on out. The Raiders are also coming off a loss to the Vikings, where only three points were scored in the game total.

According to DraftKings Sportsbook, the Raiders are currently favored over the Chargers in this one. We have been using Tallysight to get our picks in each week, so sign up at Tallysight for submitting your own bets.

Stick has been with Los Angeles since 2019, when they drafted him in the fifth-round out of North Dakota State. However, the fifth-year quarterback has never started a game, and up until last week when he played in relief of Herbert, had only attempted one regular season pass in 2020.

On the other side, the Raiders offense was awful last week, being completely shut out by the Minnesota Vikings. While interim head coach Antonio Pierce was non-committal on who would start at quarterback vs the Chargers, it looks as though rookie Aiden O’Connell will get the nod again, with Pierce opting to leave former 49ers QB Jimmy Garoppolo on the bench another week. Garoppolo joined the team on a 3yr-$72 million dollar contract this past March, but was bench upon former head coach Josh McDaniels being fired.

The Raiders have won some games with O’Connell this season, which is the only reason why I am taking them to cover the spread and win the game. Justin Herbert is a top five QB in the AFC, and if he couldn’t make the Chargers offense work, I don’t have much confidence in Stick being the remedy. I am also taking the under in this one, as both these teams combined only managed nine total points last week.
