The game of the week is between the 2-0 Los Angeles Rams and the 2-0 Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Tom Brady and the Bucs are the reigning NFC and Super Bowl champions but they did take a loss from the Rams last season. If the Rams beat the Bucs again on Sunday who might be the player of the game? Here are a few potential candidates.
MATTHEW STAFFORD
Some say that the Rams new quarterback is the single person, coaches and players included, under the most pressure to perform in this game. LA gave up a bounty that encompassed a starting passer, a third round, and two first round draft picks to acquire Stafford. Considering the trade price, it’s clear that winning games of this magnitude against teams like the undefeated Buccaneers was exactly what Stafford was brought here to do.
COOPER KUPP
Ok, this guy could be in the conversation every week but only if he keeps up the hot streak he’s built in the first two games. Kupp ranks in the top tier of the league when it comes to total yards over the first two games with well over 200 yards and three touchdowns. Last year he had over 100 yards receiving in the win against Tampa Bay and if he can contribute the same type of game, it would go a long way to achieving the same end result.
JORDAN FULLER
Fuller had two interceptions against Brady in the last meeting between these two teams. Does he have Brady’s number? We’ll find out. If he can swing even one interception in this game it would at least mean that he’s picking off Brady in consecutive games and in each of their matchups. It would also be meaningful because in what could be a NFC championship preview, every turnover will be critical.
