NFL: Los Angeles Rams at Indianapolis Colts Marc Lebryk-USA TODAY Sports

Los Angeles Rams Matthew Stafford ranks seventh among all quarterbacks in the latest edition of the CBS QB rankings, up one spot from last week. Stafford and the Rams are off to a 2-0 start after defeating the Indianapolis Colts 27-24. Stafford followed his week one NFC player of the week performance with another solid outing completing 19 of 30 passes for 278 yards and two touchdowns to one interception.

Stafford demonstrated the ability to work efficiently from a structured pocket and also the agility to climb the pocket and roll out when needed. The offense did surrender one sack but otherwise put out another effective pass attack with five receivers recording at least one catch and Cooper Kupp having another big day with two touchdowns and 163 yards receiving.

The top six quarterbacks on the CBS rankings remain fixed from their previous placements with Patrick Mahomes, Russell Wilson, and Tom Brady in the top three in that order. Justin Herbert and Dak Prescott are ranked above Stafford and their teams combined have two wins. Stafford’s Rams are 2-0. Prescott and Herbert have recorded a combined five touchdowns. Stafford alone has recorded five.

Stafford and Brady, both ranked in the top seven, will meet on Sunday at SoFi stadium for a week three marquee match up. Both passers have room to move themselves up the rankings and can make a case this week with a good show against a top ranked defense but only one can come away with a win.
