Los Angeles Rams coach Sean McVay enters his fifth season with three playoff appearances, two division titles, a NFC conference title and a Super Bowl appearance. He’s done all of this while being the youngest coach in the league. He’s undefeated while leading at halftime, undefeated against the Arizona Cardinals over eight games, and undefeated in season openers since taking over in 2017. As we get set for another Rams season to start on Sunday night, here’s a recap of McVay's week one victories.
2017 - Rams beat the Colts in LA 46 -9
McVay make his debut in Los Angeles at the Coliseum. Defense makes a statement for the new look LA Rams by scoring two touchdowns by Lamarcus Joyner and Trumain Johnson. Jared Goff throws for over 300 yards and a touchdown.
2018 - Rams beat the Raiders in Oakland 33-13
McVay against his former boss in Jon Gruden as the coach of the Raiders. Todd Gurley runs for over 100 yards and a touchdown. Goff hits Cooper Kupp and Gurley for scores.
2019 - Rams beat the Panthers in Carolina 30-27
Christian McCaffery rushes for over 120 yards and keeps the game close. Mobile quarterback Cam Newton is held to -2 yards rushing and zero touchdowns. Rams kicker Greg Zuerlein hits three field goals, one from 56 yards and another from 49 yards.
2020 - Rams beat the Dallas Cowboys in LA 20-17
SoFi Stadium debuts along with the Rams new branding and uniforms against the Cowboys. Running back Malcom Brown scores the only two touchdowns for the Rams but with a stout defensive performance it’s enough to secure McVay’s fourth week one victory.
The 2020 Super Bowl champion Tampa Bay Buccaneers will attest that winning the first game isn’t everything while winning the last game is. But if McVay can secure a win on Sunday night against the Chicago Bears he will extend his season opener win streak for a fifth year.
