The new Los Angeles Rams running back Sony Michel spoke to the media during his press session on Thursday. Michel told reporters that he was informed about the trade around 7am on Wednesday and was on a flight around 4pm that afternoon. Thursday was his first day on the field with his new teammates and coaches.
Here are 3 takeaways from the press session:
When asked what it was like being reunited with his former University of Georgia Running back coach Thomas Brown in LA, Michel responded that it was good reconnecting with some of Brown’s ways and then learning from him some of the key points about this Rams offense. Matthew Stafford is another former Georgia Bulldog and so is former Ram running back Todd Gurley. When asked about a congratulatory tweet posted from Todd Gurley, Michel said that he got a text message from Gurley that echoed the same as the twitter post.
When asked about the days of the trade and the move, Michel described it as “sudden changes”. He said the best thing to do is compare it to a football mindset and adapt as quickly as he can. Michel noted that even though he is entering his final year of his contract, the notion of being traded had not been discussed between him and his agent and that he was surprised by the trade.
Versatile and team oriented
Michel described his expected role as “whatever they need me to do”. Michel appears ready and willing to join the offense and Darrel Henderson Jr in the running back group and contribute as a runner, pass catcher, or blocker.
