Random Ramsdom: LA Rams’ Jalen Ramsey ranks 13th in NFL top 100 list

Los Angeles Rams’ cornerback Jalen Ramsey is ranked 13th on the NFL’s top 100 list for 2021. Voted by his peers, this years placement is the highest of Ramsey’s appearances on the list moving up from his previous best, ranking 17th. With the top ten yet to be revealed, NFL Network confirms the Rams defender is the highest ranking cornerback on the list.

In 2020, Ramsey started 15 games and had 44 tackles and one interception. Ramsey spent most of his snaps covering the opposing team’s best receivers. In 2020 Jalen Ramsey faced off against many of the leagues top receivers including, Deandre Hopkins, Allen Robinson, Terry McLaurin, Mike Evans, and DK Metcalf. Per NFL Network, that lot averaged less than 30 yards per game and zero touchdowns.

Mentioned in the players review of Ramsey is his intelligence and his knowledge of the game. Ramsey is also known as one of the biggest talkers in the league but this comes off as a strength in the players comments about his confidence and intimidation playing to his advantage. Lastly the peers that voted for the four time pro bowler describe his tenacity and technique when it comes to tackling. His highlights from 2020 include big, clean, perfectly timed and executed hits on Golden Tate and Amari Cooper.

Last season, Ramsey got the benefit of learning from one of the brightest defensive minds of today’s game in former defensive coordinator and new Los Angeles Chargers head coach Brandon Staley. In a sideline interview during Saturday’s preseason game, Ramsey mentioned to ABC’s commentator and former Ram Aqib Talib that he has already learned a lot from new defensive coordinator Raheem Morris and is excited about his new take on Ramsey’s role in the Rams defense.
