Vikings’ Justin Jefferson: Rams game is circled for Jalen Ramsey matchup

The second-year receiver is looking to “shoot for the stars” and compete against the Rams’ shut-down corner

Star pass catcher Justin Jefferson of the Minnesota Vikings made headlines Monday evening during his appearance on teammate Patrick Peterson’s podcast. Co-host Bryant McFadden asked the receiver what “the one cornerback you want to see line up opposite against you” and before the former NFL veteran could finish his sentence, Jefferson chimed in with “Jalen Ramsey - I’m waiting. That game is circled”.

The Los Angeles Rams will travel to play the Vikings in Week 16 of the regular season.

Jefferson had a stellar rookie campaign after being drafted by Minnesota in the first round, appearing in all 16 games and recording 88 receptions for 1,400 yards and 7 touchdowns. Primarily a slot receiver in college, the former LSU Tiger proved he can be just as dangerous as a threat aligned on the outside in the NFL.

If anyone is up to the task of covering the Vikings playmaker, it’s Ramsey. The Rams’ shut-down corner is capable of playing both in the slot and outside, and will follow a team’s primary receiving option where LA’s game plan allows.

Kevin Patra of NFL.com compiled a list of outcomes when some of the NFL’s best receivers faced Ramsey in coverage. If history repeats itself, Jefferson may be in for a long day.

Both the Rams and Vikings are expected to compete for playoff berths in the NFC this season, so the Week 16 contest and this player match-up could have significant implications on the conference standings. A lot can change between now and this late season battle, but it’s clear Jefferson is looking forward to the challenge of facing one of the league’s elite defenders.
