The Rams keep racking up the hype this offseason as Pro Football Focus continues to rank numerous players among the best of the best at their respective positions. Even when it comes to entire position groups, the Rams still remain near the top.
Most recently, the Rams defensive line ranked as the fourth-best unit in the NFL, mostly on the back of Aaron Donald who was also rated as the league’s best interior defender. The only units to rank above the Rams are the Steelers (first), Washington Football Team (second), and the Buccaneers (third).
Here’s what author Ben Linsey had to say about the Rams front line:
“The Rams don’t have the same quality of depth as the other top-five defensive lines in these rankings. But does it matter when they boast the single most disruptive force in the NFL? Aaron Donald’s 456 pressures over the past five seasons are 86 more than any other defender despite the fact that he saw a consistent barrage of double and triple teams. The attention he commands frees up other players to enjoy career years, as Dante Fowler Jr. and Leonard Floyd can attest. Los Angeles will have to replace Michael Brockers, whose 5,658 regular-season snaps since joining the Rams in 2012 rank ninth among all players at the position.”
Despite not being named, a player like Sebastian Joseph-Day should also be considered as one of the shining players on this team due to his stellar play as a rotational player in 2020. With Brockers gone and fellow rotational player Morgan Fox now elsewhere, Joseph-Day is now likely slated for even more opportunities in 2021.
What do you all think of this ranking? Is it too high? Too low? Let me know what you think!
