Todd Gurley visiting with Detroit Lions

An obvious fit for the free agent

“It’s the offseason!”

Former Rams running back Todd Gurley is visiting with the Detroit Lions on Thursday, according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter. Gurley would be reunited with quarterback Jared Goff and defensive end Michael Brockers if he does indeed sign with the Lions. Of course, Detroit’s new GM is Brad Holmes, who was hired out of the LA Rams organization earlier this year.

In 2018, a 24-year-old Todd Gurley rushed for 1,251 yards and an NFL-high 17 touchdowns in only 14 games, plus 59 catches for 580 yards and four more scores. The Rams reached the Super Bowl and Gurley was set to be the highest-paid back in league history. However, he was released prior to that contract beginning in 2020 and he signed with his hometown Atlanta Falcons.

Gurley rushed for 678 yards and nine touchdowns in 15 games, averaging only 3.5 yards per carry. He was targeted only 35 times in the passing game, catching 25 passes for 164 yards and no touchdowns. At 26, Gurley’s career might be at its last chance.
