We know that the LA Rams will play three preseason games this year — one fewer than usual but three more than 2020 — but we don’t know exactly when all of those games will take place yet. All told, it’s back to a 20-game schedule, including preseason, as the Rams will play a 17-game regular season for the first time.
And they’ll be tested against the AFC West once again.
Rams 2021 preseason opponents:
Week 1 - LA Chargers (date/time TBD)
Week 2 - Las Vegas Raiders (date/time TBD)
Week 3 - at Denver Broncos, August 28, 6:05 PM PT
Some intriguing preseason thoughts about their three opponents:
- As of now, the Broncos continue to act as if Teddy Bridgewater or Drew Lock will be their starter. Is a blockbuster move coming? This preseason game will be important for whoever starts at quarterback. We may also get a look at center Quinn Meinerz, a third round pick who many Rams fans were hopeful to get in the draft. Will Meinerz beat out 2020 third round pick Lloyd Cushenberry III? Denver’s top pick was cornerback Patrick Surtain II.
- The first preseason game will also be Brandon Staley’s first experience as a head coach in action. The Chargers drafted tackle Rashawn Slater in the first round to protect potential MVP candidate Justin Herbert. With a three-game preseason, there should be little doubt that Herbert will get some time to get a rhythm going behind a revamped offensive line, even if it’s only one or two series.
- It will be the return of Cory Littleton to LA when the Raiders come to SoFi in Week 2. The Raiders added Yannick Ngakoue, Casey Hayward, Kenyan Drake, and John Brown, among others.
Obviously, expect the Rams first two preseason games to happen some time in August.
