The Rams grabbed one of my absolute favorite cornerback prospects in the 2021 NFL Draft on Saturday, selecting Robert Rochell out of Central Arkansas with the 130th overall pick in the fourth round. GM Les Snead first traded down from 121 to 130, upgrading a sixth round pick to a fifth round pick in the process, then landed a long corner with fantastic upside in Rochell.
Rochell was a Senior Bowl standout who “has the traits” according to NFL Network’s Daniel Jeremiah. He had some “wow interceptions” also, according to Jeremiah. He is 5’11, 195 lbs, but has the 32 3/8” arms that coaches crave from outside corners. He is fast and he’s a small school prospect who would have fit in at any Power 5 program.
We know that the Rams love Senior Bowl players and defensive coordinator Raheem Morris was apparently a big fan of what Rochell can do. LA has two outstanding corners in Jalen Ramsey and Darious Williams, but the latter is a free agent in 2022 and the Rams aren’t sure who their nickel will be this upcoming season.
Rochell was selected with the Rams’ original fourth rounder that they had previously sent to the Jaguars for Ramsey.
