Rams 4th round pick Jacob Harris is maybe “the best special teams player of this draft”

Thin, fast, he’s the Tutu Atwell of day 3!

NCAA Football: Boca Raton Bowl-Central Florida at Brigham Young Jasen Vinlove-USA TODAY Sports

The LA Rams showed interest in UCF tight end/wide receiver Jacob Harris in the pre-draft process and on Saturday they proved it was real by selecting him with the 141st overall pick in the fourth round. Harris was projected by some to be a late day three pick but it was hard to ignore his unique athleticism at the UCF pro day.

There are not many tight ends who are as thin as the 6’5, 219 lbs Harris, but there also aren’t many who can run a 4.39 40-yard dash. Who knew that the biggest smokescreen of the 2021 draft process was Les Snead saying that the Rams don’t care about 40 times.

So far LA has drafted four of the best athletes in the class: Tutu Atwell, Robert Rochelle, Bobby Brown III, and now Harris.

Harris also had a 40.5” vertical, an 11’1 broad jump, and the fastest three-cone time of the year among all wide receivers, tight ends, and running backs in the class: 6.54.

Harris caught 30 passes for 539 yards for eight touchdowns last season and he had an unbelievable 20.1 yards per catch average in his two-year college career. He now competes with Tyler Higbee and Brycen Hopkins for tight end targets with the Rams.

Said Daniel Jeremiah, he might be “the best special teams player of this draft.”
