Rams general manager Les Snead has been a part of NFL front offices since he joined the Jaguars in 1995, then moved to the Falcons in 1997. He’s been a part of the decisions that put Matt Ryan in Atlanta, as well as drafting Aaron Donald for the Rams two years after he became the GM.
But Snead’s track record for day three — albeit a part of the draft that deserves extensive slack for players who never make it in the NFL or who only carve out special teams roles — has not been stellar. Though there are a few current LA starters who were drafted after round three (not mentioning undrafted free agents), 2020 sixth round pick Jordan Fuller may be the first rookie to show Pro Bowl potential at an offensive or defensive position.
And yet, Fuller has only played in 12 career games at this point. Could he really be Snead’s best day three pick already? What would former rookie standout E.J. Gaines have to say about a hot start?
It’s worth noting that in 2021, day three picks may not be quite the same as pre-pandemic day three picks, who had the NFL Scouting Combine and more college games and more information for teams to go off of. Will 2021 provide more opportunities for Snead to find talent later in the draft or should LA consider moving up?
Who is Les Snead’s best day 3 pick for the Rams thus far as GM?
