It can be frustrating to sit out the first round of the draft every year, so perhaps in the case of the LA Rams, fans can find day one excitement with another team in the NFL. Usually, that “number two team” would be in the opposite conference, though I realize plenty of people have various reasons for looking elsewhere when the A-squad isn’t involved.
But there are plenty of AFC teams with intriguing reasons to follow them right now, especially as it pertains to the 2021 draft.
The Jaguars pick first and will add Trevor Lawrence at quarterback, while the Jets pick second and will almost certainly turn to Zach Wilson. Both teams also pick again in the 20s, with both of those selections coming via NFC West teams trading for their former star defensive backs.
The Bengals have Joe Burrow and pick fifth.
The Dolphins have Tua Tagovailoa and pick sixth.
The Broncos are an intriguing sleeper team because of their defense and an underrated set of offensive personnel around the quarterback position.
The Chargers have Justin Herbert and Brandon Staley and pick 13th.
The Patriots are no longer frontrunners and pick 15th.
The Texans are as “underdog” as any team has ever been before.
Of course, there are also good teams with stars like Patrick Mahomes, Josh Allen, Lamar Jackson, Derrick Henry, and Myles Garrett.
Do you have an AFC team? What led you to them?
