Gary Davenport of Bleacher Report wrote up a list of moves each NFL team should still make this offseason and he’s got the Rams with the need to continue “beefing up” their secondary after losing starters John Johnson III and Troy Hill.
Les Snead and Sean McVay did an excellent job of finding instant-impact players in both Jordan Fuller and Terrell Burgess but now they must build upon that early success.
Here’s what Davenport had to say about that issue for the Rams:
The (Rams’) financial situation forced the team to watch a number of defensive starters leave, including defensive linemen Michael Brockers and Morgan Fox, cornerback Troy Hill and safety John Johnson III.
The first-round tender the Rams put on young cornerback Darious Williams all but ensures he’ll be back in 2021. But at the very least, they need to add depth in the defensive backfield. An upgrade over Nick Scott at free safety wouldn’t be a terrible idea.
The best route here might be to take a run at a player on the wrong side of 30 who hasn’t enjoyed much team success in the NFL. A cornerback like Darqueze Dennard or a safety like Tashaun Gipson might take a below-market deal to play for a contender.
Do you agree with Davenport’s proposed moves for the Rams? Would you be OK with either of Dennard or Gipson as a low-risk addition? Let me know below.
