After reports came out of the team approaching Michael Brockers to restructure his contract for the sake of getting under the 2021 cap, the Rams sent him off to reunite with new Lions general manager Brad Holmes in Detroit in exchange for a seventh-round pick in this year’s draft.
Following the deal, ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler, along with other analysts, gave the deal a solid “B” for the Rams and an “A” for the Lions.
“Brockers is 31 and makes $8 million this year in salary and bonuses, but the Lions won’t carry any commitment to him beyond this season if they don’t want to. He was probably going to be a salary-cap casualty for the Rams, so they get a good grade because they got at least something in return — even if it wasn’t much.”
Brockers has been a beloved veteran presence in the locker room during his entire tenure with the Rams. He’s been an important part of the defense that both his teammates and fans will miss dearly.
What do you all think of the “B” grade? Do you agree or disagree? Let me know.
