The Rams are reportedly finalizing a trade to send defensive tackle Michael Brockers to the Lions, according to sources for both NFL Network and ESPN.
This marks the second trade between Los Angeles and Detroit since the hiring of Brad Holmes to be the Lions’ new GM. The first being the trade involving quarterbacks Jared Goff and Matthew Stafford. Both trades will become official later today when the new league year starts at 4 p.m. ET.
Brockers, a former first-round pick, has spent his entire nine-year career with the Rams, which also spanned the move from St. Louis to L.A. He’s just one year into a three-year deal that he signed last offseason following the odd Baltimore deal that fell through.
According to Ian Rapoport, Brockers was asked to adjust his contract to help the Rams get under the 2021 salary cap but the two sides were not able to agree on a restructure.
The move will only cost the Rams $3.67 million in dead money but will save them $6.17 million in the end.
