According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, when the Detroit Lions and Los Angeles Rams began trade discussions to send Matthew Stafford to California, the first player that the Lions asked for in return was Aaron Donald. Strangely enough, trade talks continued from there on out.
When trade talks began between the Rams and Lions, the first player Detroit requested in a trade for QB Matthew Stafford was DT Aaron Donald, per sources. Rams told Lions, that's not happening, before the two sides later figured out the eventual compensation package. https://t.co/blGUo3f47y

It is interesting to wonder if Schefter’s tweet is true or if he was given bad information or if he simply felt like today is his own sort of twitter “Super Bowl” and he felt like having a viral tweet today. Or did Lions general manager Brad Holmes say, “Haha, Les, what if we asked for Aaron Donald? Can you imagine? Well ... can you imagine???”
If the Rams had entertained the idea of trading Donald to receive Stafford, what would the rest of the package have looked like at that point? Detroit has the seventh overall pick in the draft and LA doesn’t have a first rounder.
