In a new three-round mock put out by The Draft Wire’s Luke Easterling, the Rams forgo finding a replacement for the aging Andrew Whitworth and instead decide to replace outside linebacker Leonard Floyd on the edge.
With pick No. 57, the Rams select defensive end Quincy Roche out of Miami.
Roche spent the first three years of his college career at Temple University before transferring for one final year to The U. While with the Owls, Roche recorded 26 sacks and 38.5 tackles-for-loss. In his lone year with the Hurricanes, he posted only 4.5 sacks in 10 games, but still managed 14.5 tackles-for-loss.
Late last month, Roche participated in this year’s Reese’s Senior Bowl where he got the chance to compete against the top senior talent in the country.
At 6’3 and 245 pounds, Roche definitely fits into the ideal mold for an outside linebacker in the Rams defense. Like Floyd, he’s a tough matchup off of the edge but Roche may have a little more ability in coverage should they ask that of him, as well.
