Good news for just about everyone in the NFL this morning as the league officially announced that the 2021 salary cap minimum will be raised by $5 million, going from the previously expected $175 million to $180 million.
The wording of the NFL’s statement should also bring plenty of optimism as they declared $180 million to be the “minimum”, not necessarily the final number that teams will have to work with this upcoming season.
New television and the like have yet to be finalized and that will only put more dollars in the pockets of decision-makers while also giving them space to work with, including the ability to borrow more comfortably from future years.
For this team, who is already expected to be $25 million over the cap limit next year, any extra money is a big deal. Even if it’s just one more priority free agent returning in 2021, that’s something to celebrate.
