Rams LB Von Miller wants to recreate the Fearsome Foursome in LA

Matthew Stafford and Von Miller spoke with the media Wednesday after practice

Quarterback Matthew Stafford and newly-acquired linebacker Von Miller donning number 40 spoke to the media on Wednesday after practice. Stafford and Miller, from different perspectives, discussed what this upgraded defensive front could be and confirmed they both will play in Week 9. Here’s what else they had to say.

Stafford on the Rams being aggressive in building a talented team

As a player, it’s always exciting to add good players to your team. Find a guy like Von that’s available and we’re able to make it work. It’s a fun thing to be a part of.

It almost feels like Stafford is now a long-time Ram, as both Sony Michel and most recently Von Miller have been added via trade this year.

Stafford on how opposing quarterbacks may feel facing the Rams defensive front

I think it just puts you on the clock that much more. I know our defensive coaches will find creative ways to scheme those guys up to try to create one-on-ones and create headaches in the pass protection stuff for offenses. I know those guys are going to enjoy playing off of each other. I know that. Whoever gets the single is going to be expected to win. I know they’re going to be challenging each other and it’ll be fun to watch.

Los Angeles now has one of, if not the best pass rushing units in the NFL. Adding Miller to the group that already leads the league in sacks with 25, will only make everyone better.

Stafford says his back is ok

I feel good. I’ll be fine, play Sunday. Not worried about it. Just stiff.

The gunslinger was held out of practice but is good to go Sunday night in a primetime showdown against the Tennessee Titans.

Miller feels like the move to L.A. has been a movie

It’s different. It feels like a movie. From coming in to work on Monday, and I was in the training room, they said that George (Paton, general manager of the Denver Broncos) wants to talk to me. I’ve been in the league 11 years so I already knew what this talk was going to be about. Initially you know, it hurt. I’ve been saying it kind of felt like removing a splinter. At first it hurts. It hurts bad. I’ve been there for 11 years. I don’t know anything else. I was a Denver Bronco and they told me that I was getting traded to the Rams... I’m taking off (on the flight to Los Angeles) a Denver Bronco. When I land, I’m a Los Angeles Ram. I landed and the camera crew out there, it was a warm welcome...I went to sleep 4-4 and woke up 7-1. On the back end of things it’s not really that bad.

After spending his entire professional career with the Denver Broncos, Miller was clearly emotional after finding out he would be finishing the 2021 season with another franchise. Hopefully, he will see that sometimes the grass is greener on the other side.

Miller lists some of the reasons he is excited to play for the Rams

I get to play with Aaron Donald and Jaylen Ramsey and Leonard Floyd and Matthew Stafford and a solid offensive line. They’ve got a solid team. The Denver Broncos, they’re still building. They’re still family and stuff but this team is ready to win right now. Ready to win championships right now and I’m excited to be a part of it.

Sounds good to me!

Miller and the Mob Squad want to chase greatness

It’s incredible. You hear stories of the Fearsome Foursome and you hear stories of this legendary defense and you know we want to recreate that. They’ve been playing great defense all year and I just want to add to it I want to add some of the things that I do best: my leadership, my energy, my positive vibes. I just want to contribute to a winning team.

Is it possible that this defense could be an all-time great in terms of getting to the quarterback? Of course, they still have to put it together on the field, but with an offense that should be able to keep the defense playing with the lead and an additional game this season, maybe the 1984 Chicago Bears record of 72 sacks is a possibility.
