Pass rusher Melvin Ingram wants out of Pittsburgh, should Rams make the call?

After trading Kenny Young, will Rams have “financial flexibility” to add an edge to the defense?

The Pittsburgh Steelers signed edge rusher Melvin Ingram to help the defense get to the quarterback this season, but apparently that relationship is off to a rocky start. Ingram played in only 17 snaps in the Steelers’ most recent game and multiple sources are reporting that he would like to find a different team that will allow him to play more.

If the LA Rams are not the defense that will do that, could Ingram instead join the NFC West’s current 7-0 team that is ahead of Sean McVay in the standings?

According to NFL Network’s Aditi Kinkhabwala, the Steelers do not want to trade Ingram to the Kansas City Chiefs or any other AFC team. One team that Kinkhabwala only speculates about is the Arizona Cardinals. The Cardinals just lost J.J. Watt to injury, potentially for the entire season.

Arizona ranks 31st in yards per carry allowed, and while Chandler Jones has five sacks — all of them came in Week 1.

Teammate Markus Golden has six sacks, while inside linebacker Jordan Hicks has three.

Perhaps one team that would be interested in stepping ahead of the Cardinals in the bid for Ingram should be the Rams. LA’s defense may need help against the run (fans are undecided on if Raheem Morris is the right person for the job of calling plays) but edge rushing help is without question something that could help defeat Tom Brady, Dak Prescott, Aaron Rodgers, or even Kyler Murray, in the playoffs.

If Ingram’s not rushing against Kyler Murray, then he could be rushing for Kyler Murray, and that could be a problem for Matthew Stafford and the Rams.

So far this year, Melvin Ingram has played in six games, recording 10 tackles, six QB hits, and one sack. Ingram must believe that with more playing time, he’ll have more sacks. Which team will accommodate him and should it be the Rams?
