Cooper Kupp is proving to be one of the most productive receivers in the league this year. And by by ‘one of’ I mean by all measures heading into week eight he is ‘the’ most productive receiver in the league.

With Matthew Stafford also off to a hot start in Los Angeles, Kupp and Cincinnati Bengals rookie Ja’Marr Chase are both ranking above the leagues list of regular elite pass catchers.

With Kupp having nine total touchdowns which includes four separate games of scoring twice, it seems like a good time to have a look back at some preseason projections that Ram’s fans had for the fifth year receiver who was drafted in the third round by Les Snead and Sean McVay.

In July, an article was posted asking the question ‘Will Cooper Kupp score 11 touchdowns?’ noting that his best season had him recording 10 touchdowns all season. The point was made that Kupp should benefit from an upgrade at the passer position but no passes had yet been thrown by Stafford in LA so it was left to speculation on how the two would gel and what the outcome would be.

The articled polled readers and 50% of participants voted that Kupp would record less than 11 touchdowns while 39% voted that he would score more.

If Kupp keeps up his pace from the first seven games, he will be recording more than 11 touchdowns very likely by week ten. 39% is pretty good. The 50% who would end up undershooting the projection had decent reasoning. The reasons for Kupp not reaching 11 touchdowns had mostly to do with the distribution of touches between Kupp, Woods, Jefferson, and DeSean Jackson. Now that we are seeing how things are shaking out, Stafford is delivering at or above expectations and already has 19 touchdowns. He’s spreading the ball around but also producing enough for Kupp to have almost reached his career touchdown mark by week eight. Next up is the 1-6 Houston Texans.
