Rams-Lions: Donald says L.A. defense is going to “get after” Goff

The Los Angeles Rams host the Detroit Lions this Sunday in what seems to be a complete mismatch on paper. L.A. sits at 5-1 with genuine Super Bowl aspirations while the Lions are still searching for their first win of the season. Aaron Donald and Jalen Ramsey, along with the rest of the team, will do everything possible to make sure Detroit has to wait until Week 8 for a chance at that elusive win.

Here’s what they said about playing against former teammates Michael Brockers and Jared Goff.

Donald on the first word that comes to mind in regard to Leonard Floyd

“Playmaker. I think he’s like a silent assassin. He flies around, making a ton of plays. It’s fun to see him out there work. Having two years to be with him to grow, us learning off of each other, playing with each other well, and you know, he’s having a lot of success.”

Surprise, surprise! Leonard Floyd is currently leading L.A. with 4.5 sacks so far this season. Donald and Floyd have been wreaking havoc on quarterbacks since the start of the 2020 season, with no signs of slowing down.

Donald excited to get after Jared Goff

“It’s going to be fun. It’s competition, opportunity to just make a play. I’ve been texting him this week, just cracking jokes here and there. We’re going to do our job and get after him.”

I’m sure A.D. has put a bit of pressure on Goff a time or two at practice over the years. This Sunday however, Goff won’t have on a red non-contact jersey, as quarterbacks wear at practice.

Donald reminisces on what Michael Brockers meant to the defense

“Just the presence he brought in the run game. I think he was a solid run player for us. He did a lot in the run game for us…He’s definitely missed.”

The reigning NFL Defensive Player of the Year has made it very clear on how he feels about Brockers, going back to when it looked like he was leaving L.A. for Baltimore. Donald added that he talks to Brockers every week and that it will be all love after the game.

Ramsey on playing against Goff

“It’ll be cool. It’ll be cool.”

That’s simple enough! Ramsey added that he approaches each week the same, regardless if he is playing a quarterback he knows or not.

Ramsey thinks Goff has a lot to worry about when facing the Rams defense

“I’m sure a lot will be going through his head. He’s got to focus on A.D. too. Not just me in the secondary. You got A.D and Flo (Leonard Floyd) and some other guys on this defense too…He’ll figure it out. Or maybe he won’t.”

This may be the last defense Goff wants to see right now. With no legitimate threat at wide receiver, there is no need for Ramsey to have to focus on locking up one specific guy on the outside, which means he will continue to line up all over the place.
