Aaron Donald of the Los Angeles Rams continues his disruption of NFL offenses as he prepares to line up against his former teammate and quarterback Jared Goff. Goff will be leading the Detroit Lions into his previous home SoFi Stadium on Sunday for the week seven matchup against the Rams.
Returning with Goff is long time Ram turned Lion Michael Brockers. Brockers lined up alongside Donald in Los Angeles for seven seasons before being traded to the Lions. Brockers was one of the many beneficiaries of the attention and double team blocks that goes toward stopping Aaron Donald.
Now, those benefitting from blockers dedicating focus towards the three time defensive player of the year are Leonard Floyd, Terrell Lewis, Sebastian Joseph-Day, and in week six it was Ogbonnia Okowonkro. Against the New York Giants, the Rams had four sacks on quarterback Daniel Jones. One of the sacks was a strip sack by Okowonkro that had the ball recovered by Floyd for a Rams turnover.
In the play, the Rams formation sets Donald on the edge opposite of Okowonkro. The Giants are in a wide split shotgun look with six blockers in the box including the running back. The Rams rush five, the offensive line shifts to the right towards Donald, and including the running back, three blockers put hands on Donald which leaves Okowonkro on the opposite edge in a clear one on one battle which he wins and gets the sack.
Brockers did a lot for the Rams during his time and was obviously close to Donald but on Sunday it will be once again the new class of Donald companions that will look to take advantage of the AD effect to get to Goff and help the Rams get to 6-1.
