The Los Angeles Rams defense led by first time Ram’s defensive coordinator Raheem Morris is shaping up and caused four turnovers in the week six game against the New York Giants. Safety Taylor Rapp got two interceptions and was named the NFC defensive player of the week. Rookie Robert Rochell got his first career interception and Ogbonnia Okowonkro caused a strip sack that was recovered by the Rams.
This week the Rams take on the Detroit Lions at SoFi stadium. The Lions have given the ball away eight times in the first six games. What are the chances that the Rams defense produces another big performance in the takeaway department? Here are a few likely scenarios.
Jordan Fuller Interception
Last season Fuller had two interceptions in a single game against Tom Brady and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. This season he is still working on his first. That could come this week against Jared Goff. Goff will be under pressure against his old pals Aaron Donald and Leonard Floyd. If Goff overthrows anything over the middle, Fuller should be in a position to capture his first interception of the season.
Aaron Donald forced fumble
This is always a likely scenario with AD. However, Goff has a tendency to lose the ball in the backfield. His delivery can be low and slow at times and he can be short on pocket awareness. If anyone can take advantage of this it is the three time defensive player of the year.
Jalen Ramsey Interception
Ramsey is still lining up in the nickel or star position instead of always lining up on the outside corner spot. Much like how Rapp got his interceptions last week, it won’t be that the Lions will target Ramsey, but by lining up on the inside, it may be Ramsey this time that is lurking in the underneath zones and taking advantage of the what Goff may mistake for an open window.
Four turnovers in one game against the Giants will be hard to match. But the Rams defense is on a roll and preparing to line up against a familiar opponent.
