Cam Akers is ACTIVE vs Cardinals

Despite a recent high ankle sprain, Akers might want to give it a go

Update:

Rams inactives today are Jared Goff, Micah Kiser, Bryce Perkins, Brian Allen, Trishton Jackson. That means that Blake Bortles is the backup for John Wolford and Cam Akers, Leonard Floyd are both ACTIVE.

The Los Angeles Rams offense is not in the shape that teams hope to be in by Week 17, but they might at least get an unexpected boost from the return of their most explosive running back. Rookie Cam Akers missed Week 16’s loss to the Seahawks with a high ankle sprain, a game in which the team lost running back Darrell Henderson to an ankle injury. Without Henderson available in Week 17’s game against the Arizona Cardinals, Akers is expected to try and play Sunday according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter.

In his three most recent games — when he started taking over the majority of the snaps — Akers ran for 306 yards on 65 carries. He also caught four passes for 44 yards.

It would appear that Akers and Malcolm Brown would be Sean McVay’s top two options at running back against the Cardinals — a defense ranked 23rd in rushing yards and 26th in yards per carry allowed — though rookies Xavier Jones or Raymond Calais could be forced into action at any point.

The Rams are already playing without Jared Goff, Cooper Kupp and Michael Brockers, in addition to Henderson and Andrew Whitworth. They face the Cardinals at 1:25 PM PT and a win will guarantee LA a trip to the postseason.
