The Detroit Lions are expected to hire Rams director of college scouting Brad Holmes as their next general manager, which could mean that they’d like to hire Rams defensive coordinator Brandon Staley as their next head coach. Holmes even mentioned Staley by name in his second interview, according to rumors reported by Dave Birkett of the Detroit Free-Press.
Word circulating yesterday was that Holmes mentioned Staley in his second interview... Lions can't talk to him till Rams' playoff run is done, don't know if they will. But name mentioned at least. https://t.co/UObT4tXzOD

Staley and Holmes likely do not have a ton of familiarity with each other prior to 2020, but it could be an easier “in” for Detroit knowing that the pair did work on the same team this past season. Staley and his number one defense could be a selling point that means he has multiple offers — the Houston Texans have also requested an interview — so having any connections like Holmes could be what tips him in a certain direction.
Staley has reportedly already been assembling a prospective staff, including Texans defensive coordinator Anthony Weaver.
Brandon Staley, who has met w/Jets and Chargers (and possibly Lions to come) would bring a very strong staff of rising coaches, I'm told, including Texans DC Anthony Weaver, Colts DB coach Jonathan Gannon (great work with that secondary) and Bears DL coach Jay Rodgers (former QB)
