The LA Rams first 17 cuts and what could happen next

Who is out on Friday?

The Los Angeles Rams have cut 17 players, according to multiple sources. The Athletic’s Jourdan Rodrigue provided a list on Twitter. The Rams have to cut 10 more players and will have a 16-man practice squad, some of whom will obviously come from the following list.

Jamil Demby, OL

A sixth round pick in the 2018 draft, Demby appeared in six games with one start last year and that’s his career thus far. Many expected him gone or wanted him gone and this completes that circle, but he’s a good bet for the practice squad.

John Kelly, RB

The Rams drafted 11 players in 2018 and Kelly is the fourth to be let go by the team now. We’ll see if Justin Lawler and Brian Allen survive Saturday. Kelly has 83 yards on 30 career carries with no touchdowns. So far undrafted free agent Xavier Jones has outlasted him.

Easop Winston, WR

JJ Koski, WR

Earnest Edwards, WR

Three longshots at the position, this means that Trishton Jackson remains on the roster for now and since he was one of the players working on returning kicks, maybe this means he’ll survive to Week 1.

Kendall Blanton, TE

Appeared in one game in 2019 but was probably never going to make this roster unless there was an injury. He may be a good practice squad option.

Cohl Cabral, C

Jeremiah Kolone, C

Two players who could have been competing as interior offensive line depth, they could each make the practice squad. Remaining on the roster for now are Coleman Shelton and Allen, as well as seventh rounder Tremayne Anchrum.

Adonis Alexander, CB

The only strict cornerback to be released on Friday, Alexander was thought to have an outside shot at making the roster. He appeared in nine games with Washington in 2018 but didn’t play in 2019. The Rams have five cornerbacks left and Donte Deayon may be the only one left on the bubble.

Juju Hughes, S

Tyrique McGhee, S

Jake Gervase, S

Dayan Ghanwoloku, S

The Rams liked something in the three undrafted free agent rookie safeties but they had a tough road to crack a roster that had two starters, two draft picks and Nick Scott, who was one of their most active players on special teams last year. It probably means that the Rams would also like to stash one or all on the practice squad. Gervase was on the practice squad last year and active for two games, he may be going back to the PS.

Daniel Bituli, LB

Derrick Moncrief, LB

Even with the injury issues at linebacker, Bituli and Moncrief weren’t likely to make it to the 53. McVay has linebacker decisions left to make and it could be at least three or four of the next 10 cuts come from this position.

Lirim Hajrullahu, K

Austin MacGinnis, K

The team drafted Sam Sloman but I think the only reason they picked him is because he was the best kicker in training camp. He may have the most leg and he had a good second scrimmage too. Either of these guys are great bets to make the practice squad as LA may call upon them at any point to come back.
