The Rams came away with a close victory over the Cowboys on Sunday night and that’s really all that matters in week one. Everyone else is in the same, inexperienced boat with the lack of preseason games and other team activities that were canceled earlier this offseason.
So again, a win is a win.
At 1-0, the Rams are currently being viewed as one of the better teams in the league. Per CBS Sports’ latest power rankings, they’re currently 12th - one spot behind the Patriots (questionable) and one spot ahead of the Titans.
“The best thing from their opening victory over the Cowboys had to be the defense,” says author Pete Prisco. “Limiting the Cowboys to 17 points was solid. Jared Goff got off to a good start as well”
Prisco is correct that the team’s optimal defensive performance is the key takeaway from their recent win. The Cowboys’ offense this season was set to be one of the most-prolific in the NFL, but Aaron Donald and company held them to 17 points with plenty of new players and young guys manning a number of starting jobs.
Brandon Staley should take a bow.
Next week, the defense gets a much easier task when they visit the Philadelphia Eagles, who just came off a porous outing against the Washington Football Team.
