Todd Gurley has mixed debut for Falcons

A strong start was mitigated by Atlanta falling behind early, Gurley not a threat in passing game

Running back Todd Gurley had some “mixed results” throughout his five-year Rams career, including twice making a case as MVP and also struggling in a Jeff Fisher offense in 2016 and because of the injuries that mounted leading into 2019. On Sunday, Gurley played his first NFL game without the Rams and similarly there were hits and misses.

In his Falcons debut, Gurley finished with 56 rushing yards on 14 carries and he was targeted five times in the passing game, only catching two passes and gaining one yard. He did score a touchdown early to keep Atlanta close with the Seattle Seahawks, 14-9, but ultimately the Falcons fell behind and eventually lost 38-25.

Gurley had just four carries for five yards and one catch for one yard in the second half of the game.

Don’t worry, I won’t be doing Todd Gurley updates every week. It did feel relevant to create an update on his first game with the Falcons though. Dante Fowler, another former Rams player who went to the Falcons, shared a sack with Grady Jarrett and had four tackles and one QB hit.
