Rams A’Shawn Robinson placed on NFI, could he miss regular season games?

The team has not disclosed much information on Robinson yet

Rams fans haven’t had many new players to be “eager” about this offseason as several notable names left and salary cap issues kept Los Angeles from bringing many in. One player they were able to secure was former Detroit Lions nose tackle A’Shawn Robinson, whose massive volume could be a perfect fit alongside Aaron Donald, but the “off” season could be getting a little longer for Robinson than anticipated.

The Rams placed Robinson on the Non-football Injury list on Saturday without disclosing more information than that.

J.B. Long of Rams radio spoke to Sean McVay over the weekend and while Robinson was reported as doing really well, McVay said the team would get him back “at some point this season” according to Long. It was also noted that the move may have been “precautionary” and that whatever it is, they were not expecting it. I won’t speculate.

But we may not need to speculate about games missed if McVay is saying that Robinson would only return “at some point this season.” There is no preseason, and if it’s not “by Week 1,” then it could be that Robinson won’t be there in Week 1.

The Rams do have considerable depth at defensive line thanks to the surprise return of Michael Brockers after Robinson had signed. They also have Sebastian Joseph-Day, Morgan Fox, and Greg Gaines. But Robinson was signed for a reason and the wait to see the results of that move may take a little longer to hit game day.
