Random Ramsdom: Which current Rams are on the path to Canton?

Football fans love to throw around the phrase “future Hall of Famer” when it comes to their favorite players, especially those on their favorite teams. Sometimes it’s warranted, sure. There are players who come out of the draft so searing hot that they put together a performance during their rookie contracts that would make anyone say, “Yeah, he’s headed for Canton.”

So let’s take this question and out it in the context of the Rams: What current Rams players have the highest chance of making it into the Hall of Fame? According to Bill Barnwell of ESPN, those are defensive tackle Aaron Donald (El Duh) and cornerback Jalen Ramsey. Below are his thoughts on both players with his estimate chance of making the HoF.

On Donald:

“Lock (100%): DT Aaron Donald. Donald clinched his gold jacket when he won his second Defensive Player of the Year award. With five consecutive first-team All-Pro appearances, he could retire tomorrow and get in without any questions.”

These are my exact thoughts so there’s not much to add here. He’s been the most-dominant player during my lifetime (I’m 26) and I can’t imagine a better individual start to a player’s career than the one he’s riding right now.

On Ramsey:

“In the running (40% to 69%): CB Jalen Ramsey. He has now made three consecutive Pro Bowls, although his only first-team All-Pro nod came in 2017. Moving to a higher-profile, more successful team will help Ramsey’s chances of drawing national attention, although he wasn’t close to Stephon Gilmore or Tre’Davious White a year ago. Given the age of Gilmore and Patrick Peterson, Ramsey is neck-and-neck with White and Marshon Lattimore as the likely best cornerback in football over the next five years.”

I like these odds for Ramsey. He had a tumultuous season in 2019 due to a lot of extenuating factors but when he’s able to 100% focus on football, there’s not many better, if at all. Now that he knows he’s going to be in L.A. this entire season, expect him to pick back where he left off in 2018.
