Rams position battles: Final votes

Need to wrap up a few more positions here with voting

Who will be starting on offense and defense for the 2020 LA Rams? I’ve run some position battle articles out there but didn’t start adding polls until recently. I want to hit a few more positions and also re-hit a few positions that I wrote about but didn’t get fan votes on. Let’s see where people’s heads are at with these groups as training camp supposedly gets ready to begin in a few weeks.

I realize that in every poll there will be less obvious — and potentially even correct “long shot” answers — but I’m sticking with the most likely names only.

RB1 - Darrell Henderson or Cam Akers?

It’s possible that “starting running back” won’t matter. Perhaps they get about an equal share. The truth is that even though Akers was most likely drafted to be their premier number one back, ideally, he’s now dealing with the pandemic offseason and getting less of a chance to practice with the team prior to Week 1. And fewer, possibly no, preseason games.

Henderson didn’t make as much progress as people hoped last year but he has a real opportunity to change some minds.

WR3 - Van Jefferson or Josh Reynolds?

I don’t think “wide receiver three” will get nearly as many targets as many assume. I wouldn’t imagine that Sean McVay expects to get “the next Brandin Cooks” into his offense right away. The gameplan must change and probably include more throws to his two tight ends. I would ask: Which wide receiver gets the most snaps after Cooper Kupp and Robert Woods?

EDGE2 - Terrell Lewis, Ogbonnia Okoronkwo, Samson Ebukam, Kenny Young

I actually never got to this group. Leonard Floyd was paid to start, Micah Kiser was voted as the top inside linebacker, but one of these guys (at least) should expect to get his chance to be Clay Matthews at least. I’m throwing in Young because there seems to be some support for him in general, though maybe not in this spot and maybe not right away.

NICKEL CB - Terrell Burgess, Darious Williams, David Long

Long was a third round pick a year ago but Williams was a star over at PFF for his reps late in the year. (They also loved him in college.) Burgess is also a third round pick but like Akers, has the weird rookie offseason and also going through a transition of position if he’s not going to play safety.
