Six teams have changed or updated their jerseys this offseason with only one more left to go: the LA Rams. After the unveiling of the new logo didn’t go as positively as hoped by management, at least we know one thing: they wouldn’t have any time to make any changes to it anyhow based on what we saw with the hats.
It’s Jersey Week here at SB Nation and blogs around the network are asking fans about their favorite jerseys, their first jerseys, what they think of their teams current jerseys. And the Rams are in the unique position of only have “old” jerseys, at least as far as the public knows. The franchise did reveal “new” colors, which were a throwback to the “old” colors, which I think has an argument as the best color scheme in football.
The royal blue and gold uniforms hearken back to pre-2000 NFL football, which may simply be because they switched over to champagne gold and darker blue the year after they won the Super Bowl. Could there be a more drastic moment to change?

Any time you see the Rams in champagne gold, you know it’s after the ‘99 Greatest Show. The royal blue and gold could be pre-2000 or it could even be the 2018 Super Bowl team. We know now that the new uniforms will likely also be somewhat of a throwback and is meant to symbolize, in some way, the city of Los Angeles.

I think in life there are things that we understand and things that we don’t and the reasons for what fall into those two categories are varied and often inconsequential. So why fight it if you don’t understand something? I have loved the NFL for 30 years and there’s plenty I obsess over that others do not understand, but what I do not understand is an obsession with jerseys, colors, and logos. That type of stuff is of massive interest to fans in general and it has never quite been something I’ve understood or grasped onto.
The first jersey I ever purchased was at Champ Sports in the year 2001. It was a Houston Texans jersey and it said “Texans” on the back for the name. Why? Because they were still an expansion team at the time and had no players, but they were selling jerseys. Which I thought it would be cool to own the “first” Texans jersey and so that’s my first jersey purchase. Almost 20 years later, my dog owns the same number of jerseys as I do.
I think the Rams have awesome colors now (not so much a fan of champagne gold) but they could play in anything and I’d watch. They could be in champagne gold and champagne red and champagne silver and I’d still watch.

We know that next season they’ll be playing in “Rams Royal” and “Sol” (pretty close to the throwbacks) and I’ll watch that. It’ll be a little prettier to look at but not necessarily the reason I tuned in.
The Rams team website has a photo gallery of uniforms over the last 80 years that you can look at with minimal ads. I won’t re-print them here and I won’t ask you what your favorite jersey has been throughout the years, though you are more than welcome to share that in the comments in jersey week. You can also share what your first jersey purchase ever was or the next jersey purchase you plan to make is. We know that many fans aren’t happy with the new logo that you may see on the front of a shirt, but you’ll always be a fan of at least a jersey with a name like “Donald” on the back.
Instead, since the LA Rams are the only team to not reveal their new jerseys yet, I won’t focus on the past like the rest of SB Nation, I’ll take this opportunity to focus on the future:
