The LA Rams did not participate in Thursday’s first round of the 2020 NFL Draft, but that doesn’t mean that it wasn’t a good day for them. Perhaps that was the case, as the first round didn’t showcase an overt amount of offensive linemen and that could push a couple of good prospects down to the Rams around their second round picks at 52 and 57.
After the top four tackles went off the board, only Austin Jackson at 18, Cesar Ruiz at 24, and Isaiah Wilson were drafted over the rest of the first round among offensive line prospects.
Instead, the draft saw six receivers taken between 12 and 25, including the San Francisco 49ers trading up for Brandon Aiyuk, plus a late run on defensive players as two linebackers and two cornerbacks were among the final six picks of the round. The last pick of Thursday was the Kansas City Chiefs selecting Clyde Edwards-Helaire, the only running back of the day.
There weren’t a ton of surprises on Thursday but one is that Houston tackle Josh Jones wasn’t drafted, nor was Boise State’s Ezra Cleveland. Both are still on the board, as are Lucas Niang and Prince Tega Wanogho. Among the interior offensive linemen are Lloyd Cushenberry, Jonah Jackson, Matt Hennessy, Robert Hunt, and Tyler Biadasz. Not all were thought to go in the first round, but neither were players such as Damon Arnette or Jordyn Brooks, who were picked and could have pushed a couple of other players down.
