Todd Gurley, Brandin Cooks trade rumors persist again Thursday morning

The Rams may want to trade Todd Gurley. We knew that?

At 7:43 AM on Thursday, ProFootballTalk tweeted out that the “Rams are currently in discussions regarding a possible trade of RB Todd Gurley.” It is unclear if this means that Mike Florio was texted about the team literally being in the middle of a conversation with a general manager ready to make a move or if the account was simply weeks behind the news of everybody else. But Todd Gurley trade rumors are once again in the news.

The Rams have yet to see Gurley play a snap on the contract extension he signed in 2018 but a whole new internet could be formed just to cover the rumors of the team wanting to part ways with him over the last year. And here is the latest, which isn’t the announcement of a trade or even the discussions of a trade ... but a discussion regarding a possible trade.

“Hey Les, would you trade Todd Gurley?”

“Mmmmm.... possibly.”

“Well, yeah. That’s the idea. That’s why we’re talking on the phone, right?”

Maaaaaaybe.”

“Les.”

“.....”

“Are you texting Florio again?”

The truth is that PFT basically tweeted out nothing. Not news, not even necessarily a new rumor, but the stories already emerging from that tweet include LA being “on the verge” of trading Gurley and “Rams could cut Gurley by Friday” which more originates from something Mike Silver said on Monday.

It is possible that the Rams trade Gurley within minutes of me even posting this story and that would have been true with or without a warning shot. A warning shot that doesn’t even say they’re about to trade Gurley, but that they’re in talks about a possible trade cause if nothing happens on Thursday, then no harm, no foul. At least we created some news.

Old news.

(Yes, I see the irony.)

And earlier in the week it was reported that maybe both Gurley and Brandin Cooks would be on the move, either separately or together. One fun report had them going to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers to provide support to Tom Brady. Jeff Howe, a Patriots writer for The Athletic, opted to bring Cooks name back into the fold on Thursday too because hey why not?
