Blake Bortles may still get his second chance.
The Los Angeles Rams will sign Bortles away from the Denver Broncos practice squad this week to have him serve as John Wolford’s backup against the Arizona Cardinals, according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter. Jared Goff will miss at least one game following thumb surgery, but intends to return for the playoffs if the Rams make it there.
Rams’ QB John Wolford is expected to start on Sunday vs. Arizona and LA now plans to sign Blake Bortles off Denver’s practice squad to be his backup.

Sean McVay noted that the team would attempt to have both Bortles and practice squad quarterback Bryce Perkins available this week. A win by Los Angeles will guarantee their ticket to the postseason — and it’s possible that both Goff and left tackle Andrew Whitworth would be able to return in time for the wild card round.
I don’t know what else to say about Bortles that every other Rams or NFL website hasn’t already said: he was a high draft pick, he was bad, he was on the Rams last season but he didn’t really play and he was hanging on for dear life with the Broncos.
Perkins competed with Wolford and another undrafted free agent to be Goff’s backup and was eventually signed to the practice squad. He hasn’t been on the active roster all season for obvious reasons and now he could be one snap away from helping LA reach the postseason.
More importantly, Wolford is zero snaps away from being in that position already.
