Two weeks ago, if you were to ask any Rams fan how they expected the final three games of the season to go, no one would have answered anything close to what we’ve seen up to this point. No one would have even given thought to the idea they would find a way to lose to the Jets and not a soul would have expected zero touchdowns scored against a Seahawks defense that was once on pace to be the worst unit in NFL history.
But this is what happened.
Despite the flat performance on Sunday afternoon, John Breech of CBS Sports still gave the Rams a middling “C” for their efforts in a 20-9 loss to Seattle.
“The Rams couldn’t get anything going against a Seahawks defense that has looked much better since Jamal Adams returned. Jared Goff was abysmal in a game Los Angeles had to win, finishing 24 of 43 for 234 yards and an inexplicable interception in the second quarter on a bootleg. The Rams didn’t score a touchdown on offense, which just isn’t enough when you’re going against Russell Wilson in a game for first place in the division. Los Angeles has a good defense and a strong running game with two very good wideouts and tight ends — but are limited with Goff at quarterback. The Rams will fight for their playoff lives next week, needing a win to clinch.”
The Rams will host the 8-7 Cardinals inside SoFi Stadium this Sunday with their playoff hopes on the line. If Jared Goff can’t go due to his apparent broken thumb, it would be up to backup John Wolford to make something happen against Arizona.
