Random Ramsdom: Rams fail in horrid loss to the Jets

After yesterday’s performance, I’m not sure what other grade could be warranted for the Jets.

Everything — and I mean everything — fell flat on Sunday afternoon. Quarterback Jared Goff was uninspiring throughout and the running game, outside of a 40-yard carry by receiver Robert Woods, lacked any explosiveness. A key special teams blunder also set the Rams back in the first half as they struggled to score until just before time expired in the second half.

Here’s what CBS Sports’ John Breech had to say about the team’s performance on Sunday:

“If you lose to the Jets, you get an “F,” it’s that simple. In what was easily the most embarrassing loss of the season for any team, the Rams fell asleep at the wheel during a first half that included a blocked punt by the Jets and an interception from Jared Goff. The Rams had a chance to tie this game with by attempting a 55-yard field goal attempt with four minutes left in the fourth quarter, but Sean McVay decided to go for it on fourth-and-4 and the Rams failed to convert, which wasn’t too surprising given that they failed at almost everything they did in this game. The Rams were only able to muster 303 yards of offense to a Jets team that went into the game having surrendered the third-most yards in the NFL this year.”

In what was expected to be a tune-up game ended up being a humbling experience for the Rams just ahead of two divisional matchups to end the regular season. With the Cardinals just one game behind in the NFC West, the they need to take care of business against Seattle next so the season finale is a little less suspenseful.
