Random Ramsdom: Has Cam Akers planted his flag in the backfield?

The talent and potential has always been apparent with rookie Cam Akers. It wasn’t so much a matter of if, but when. Well, last night was that moment for Akers as he glided and strode through the Patriots all night long.

The 2020 second-round back rushed for a career-high 171 yards on 29 carries. His long of 35 yards came on his very first carry of the game and he also chipped in a pair of catches for 23 yards. HIs 179 rushing yards were also the most by a Rams rookie since Jerome Bettis had 212 in a game back in 1993.

Fellow backfield mate Darrell Henderson only got two carries on the night for five yards and Malcolm Brown didn’t see a single touch against New England.

Does this finally mean that Sean McVay has committed to his rookie as the team’s lead back going forward? I would like to think so, but would anyone be that surprised if there was a full-on committee effort next week against the Jets?

Henderson was a draft crush of McVay’s during the 2019 draft, so can we expect him to just let the second-year player fade into irrelevancy? I wouldn’t be so sure.

At any rate, I want to hear what you all think. Has Akers done enough to run away with the job? Do any of you still want to see Henderson involved? Let us know.
