Will the Rams get involved again?

Despite no first and fourth round picks in the 2021 NFL Draft, the LA Rams could get involved in Tuesday’s trade deadline. Selling a valuable asset at this stage in the season would not make as much sense as buying, but is it worth considering if the Rams have an opportunity to add draft picks today?

Maybe the best way to approach that question would be to pretend that LA is 0-8. If that was the case, which players could be on the block?

Upcoming free agents would be a good place to start and tight end Gerald Everett could be the most attractive target among those players for the Rams. He’s 26 and a return next season is unlikely but for now it looks like LA needs him. Tyler Higbee was dealing with an injury recently and rookie Brycen Hopkins is a rookie. Everett only had 32 yards on nine targets against the Dolphins, but he’s also stepped up in a number of games the last two seasons.

The Rams need to get more dynamic on offense, not less explosive. They can’t be limiting how many weapons Jared Goff has and so it is probably safe to assume that a skill player is more likely to be added than dealt. LA needs more threats.

Other upcoming free agents for the Rams include John Johnson, Troy Hill, Malcolm Brown, Josh Reynolds, Austin Blythe, Morgan Fox and restricted free agent Darious Williams. Can Les Snead and Sean McVay trade any of these assets for draft picks without making the team worse?

Wide receivers who have been mentioned in trade discussions around in the internet include A.J. Green, Marvin Jones, Golden Tate, Kenny Stills, John Ross, Brandin Cooks. Green is 32 and he hasn’t been a productive receiver since 2017 but that hasn’t stopped Joe Burrow from targeting 63 times. Green’s 5.0 yards per target is one of the worst marks for a receiver in the last decade.

There has also been thought about the Rams improving their offensive line or linebackers group, potentially even adding another pass rusher to play alongside Aaron Donald. The Rams will be getting back A’Shawn Robinson soon, though pass rushing is not what he was signed to do.

If any trades happen around the NFL today or there are scenarios you want to discuss, this thread is a great place to do it.
