Random Ramsdom: Rams receive average game grade against the Giants

After going toe-to-toe with the Buffalo Bills last weekend in an eventual shootout, the Rams sort’ve sauntered through their Week 4 game against the Giants en route to a 17-9 victory that was much closer than expected.

The ground game never really got going, and Jared Goff only threw for 200 yards, although he was fairly efficient with 25 completions in 32 attempts. It ended up being a big defensive day as Daniel Jones was sacked five times, which all came from different defenders. Defensive back Darious Williams punctuated the game with a game-sealing interception, as well.

For their collaborative efforts, CBS Sports’ John Breech gave the Rams a “C+” in their win, and that grade is understandably supported mostly by the defense. Here’s what he had to say:

“The Rams offense didn’t really show up for this game, but that didn’t matter, because their defense absolutely overwhelmed the Giants. The Rams front-seven against the Giants offensive line was a mismatch from start to finish as the Rams were able to total five sacks. The Rams defense didn’t give up a single scoring drive or more than 60 yards. Offensively, the Rams seemed to struggle because they couldn’t get anything going on the ground. The Rams totaled just 58 rushing yards, which marked just the third time under Sean McVay that they’ve gone under 60 rushing yards in a home game.”

After scoring a ton against the Bills, some regression was to be expected, but I’m sure no one expected just 17 points against one of the softer matchups on the entire schedule. That’s just the NFL, I guess.

The Rams visit the 1-3 Washington Football Team next Sunday in what will be a stiffer test against one of the more aggressive fronts in football.
