The bad news for Sam Sloman is that the Los Angeles Rams signed a new kicker. The good news? Sloman still has a job ...
For now.
Rams sign kicker Kai Forbath
— Los Angeles Rams (@RamsNFL) October 20, 2020
The Rams signed veteran kicker Kai Forbath off the Chicago Bears’ practice squad (the Rams host Chicago on Monday night as their Week 7 opponent). Forbath is 33 years old and has kicked for seven different teams over the past decade.
Normally, when a team signs a new kicker during the season, they have released the incumbent kicker. But Sloman, a seventh-round draft pick this year, is sticking around to compete with Forbath. Don’t expect the Rams to keep both kickers on the rosters for long though, it may even just be for the next few days.
Clearly, the Rams don’t want to give up on Sloman, but they need insurance and Forbath provides that. Sloman needs to have a good week of practice as he has struggled repeatedly this season. He has missed two field-goal attempts and three extra points, which is the bigger problem.

To make room for Forbath, the Rams put linebacker Obo Okoronkwo on the injured reserve. He is expected to be back next month with an elbow injury.
