It’s prediction week over at the NFL Network’s Good Morning Football and they had some things to say about QB Jared Goff. This isn’t the first time and not the last because Goff is an interesting player to talk about because he’s not a front runner to finish the regular season as the top QB in the league like a Patrick Mahomes II or even Drew Brees.
However, Jared Goff puts up stats and wins games. And beyond his three talented wide receivers he has at his disposal, Goff has his BFF TE Tyler Higbee and breakout candidate TE Gerald Everett to throw to. But best of all? Goff is excellent at the play-action and regardless of the narrative this offseason, the Rams are going to run the ball or at least make you think they are going to run it.
So, it makes sense that Kyle Brandt selected the System QB to go off this year because I feel the same way.

Who will be the 2019 MVP?

I gotta admit that I love the showmanship that Brandt showcases in this clip — he’s really having fun with his prediction. And the sizzle reel for Goff is aces. If you can’t get pumped for week 1 by watching this clip, I don’t know what to tell you. Maybe you’re a Chargers fan?
What Kyle Brandt brings up here that caught my attention is the national narrative that expectations are lowered for Goff because of his poor showing in the Super Bowl. Brandt spins this to say that it’s part of his story, something he can build off of. But it’s not like Goff threw four picks and fumbled the ball a bunch of times. Maybe it’s hyperbole on the biggest stage, but Goff was contained by a great defensive scheme from the New England Patriots.
So, what I’m saying is: the system was defeated and not Goff.
I think Jared Goff will go off this year; not because he wants to prove the naysayers wrong who doubted him after the Super Bowl. He’s going to go off because he’s a great quarterback and that’s what great quarterbacks do.
And even if Goff does win he MVP and the Super Bowl... he’ll still go off in the 2020 season because he’s that good.
Count on it.
